Job interviews can be scary, we said it. You can be the smartest and most skilled person that has applied for a job, but that doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to get it. To excel in interviews, practice makes perfect. It is one hundred percent true that interviewing is a learned skill.
Practice good nonverbal communication
To get you started you should start working on your body language – this can tell someone a lot about us.
Make sure that you body tells your future employer that you want the job. Stand up straight and show them that you are confident. Making eye contact and connect with the person interviewing you with a firm handshake.
Dress to Impress Your Employer
It is important that you show the company that you are interviewing for that you understand the way that they work. Even though their business may be casual dress, it is always expected that you spruce up before the interview day.
We are not sating that you have to wear a suit if you are going for a retail interview – just wear something that shows that you care and look after your appearance.
Make Sure You Listen
This will get you far in the work place and will prove to the interviewer that you were a great pick. Make sure that you are listening to them from the very beginning of the interview. At this point they will be telling you all of the vital information you need to know about the job role that you are applying for. A good communicator will listen and feedback on what the person is saying.
Balance
Make sure you find the balance between not talking and talking far too much. Make the most of the interview by telling your interviewer all of the important details they need to know and leave out the rest.
Take care to answer the questions
It isn’t a race to see how fast you answer the questions which have been put in front of you – take your time and really think about the question that has been given to you.
For example, if the person who interviews you asked you for an example of time where you were faced with difficulties, this is a behavioral interview question.
This type of question has been constructed to prove that you can overcome struggle an learn from it. Don’t just give an example, talk about your skills and what you would do if this happened again.
Interview Your Interviewer
At the end of your interview, you will be asked if you have any questions. Even if they tell you everything about your job role that you need to know, you must look like you are optimistic about the role.
Get to know your interviewer, ask them how long have they worked at the company and what they enjoy about working there. You have every right to ask as it will give you an insight into the role and work place you are applying for.
